Hot Cold Power – XALYPHO – an ambient suite

The idea for this EP was born in my childhood. You see, my family had an electronic keyboard lying around for my little hands to play with, so as a child, 8 or 9 years old, I took the keyboard and composed 5 short abstract synth tracks and recorded them on cassette tape.

As it happens most times, things get lost, so did my recordings for this EP. Of course, I was a little child back then, so I can forgive myself.

Now, I've found this cool, hand-drawn, original cover art I made as a 8-9 year old with nothing but felt tip pens. You must also understand that it was in the early 1990s when all this happened.

So, I decided to re-imagine those little tracks, with nothing else to guide me but the cover art and the track lengths that can be seen on the art.

The result is heard here. Please listen and download, thank you!

Everything happened as usual, here is the workflow:

* I tracked the basis of the tracks with Renoise, using vintage synth and drum machine samples, then
* mixed it in my DAW of choice
* did some re-recordings with Korg Volca Keys
* then played it back on a cassette with a cassette recorder, and
* then recorded it back on the computer with my DAW
* plus a little cosmetics with Audacity
